About Therex Portal

Multilingual Home Exercise Program with Tele-health interface

Therex Portal© offers unique telehealth solution

Global Problem- “Clinician Shortage and Patient Drop out”

Therex Portal is developed to address the needs of shortage of rehabilitation clinicians such as skilled orthopedic doctors, neurologists, physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech language pathologists etc. and improve continuity of care at home after a therapist’s session. Patients forget the exercises demonstrated in the clinic and practice exercises at home with faulty mechanics leading to injury and poor outcomes. Also a few applications that address this need have instructions restricted to English and other western languages.

Poor Comprehension and Health awareness in patients

Patients in India, Asia and Middle Eastern Countries who speak other languages lack clear understanding of exercises due to incorrect interpretation of the instructions and unclear pictures. General population lacks health awareness to medical conditions. Clinicians spend a great deal of time educating patients about their health condition verbally and even so, lack of review material adds frustration to either parties contributing to poor understanding and limited compliance.

Therex Portal’s Solution: Therex Portal© offers unique telehealth solution

Therex Portal has addressed all the above needs with a break through solution where clinicians can prescribe exercises, educate patients and treat them with our one stop software that has online home exercise programs, compiled library of clinician, patient health education handouts, and HIPAA compliant tele rehab video conference interface for telehealth services.

Videos and Crystal-clear pictures

Therex Portal’s creative team has built custom 3D human models to visually explain the exercises with multiple view angles. Our built in multi language integration allows instructions to be customized in native languages both in content and calligraphy improving understanding of the exercises.

Nationally accredited patient education handouts

Clinicians can review and share our carefully compiled health education handouts from accredited sources like National Institute of Health, Christopher and Dana Reeves Organization, National Institute of Stroke etc., saving valuable time and improving health care awareness to patients. This allows clinicians to spend more time hands on with the patients resulting in effective clinic visit.

Improve continuity of care and decrease patient cancellation

Rehabilitation services are provided globally through private pay in developing countries or driven through health insurance in developed countries. In both scenarios sudden patient drop out is a problem either due to financial burden or due to visit restrictions from insurance resulting in ineffective care.

Supplementing Therex Portal© with clinical practice, assists therapists to see patients longer by spreading the financial resources and treatment visits to 2-3 sessions a week. This allows uninterrupted care and achieve complete resolution of symptoms.

Personal Journey of Therex Portal©

Therex Portal is developed out of a personal life experience. A few years ago, when the founder’s mother was prescribed vestibular therapy by a doctor, there were very few therapists who are proficient with the evaluation and treatment of vestibular dizziness.

Further when the founder tried to clinically provide advice and consultation to her mother long distance, there are no applications that had the ability to customize instructions in native Indian languages and demonstrate exercises with clarity.

The founder Asha J Gummadi, realized the need to bridge the gap and improve quality of physical therapy rehab by developing Therex Portal.

Therex Portal is the result of 5 years of meticulous hard work from an entire team of clinical advisors, 3D animators, 3D artists, videographers, professional medical translators, and technology developers.

Therex Portal improves therapist knowledge by offering a detailed exercise database of condition specific impairments to sort from.

It further enhances patient care with the ability to customize exercise instructions to patient’s specific physical ability and comprehension level making learning a breeze.

Brian Reynolds, MBA, is a former Microsoft General Manager. He started up Microsoft in Ireland and grew it to 2000 employees responsible for Manufacturing, Distribution and European Operations.

He was an early pioneer of ‘lean’ operations techniques and process reengineering. He also managed Microsoft in Spain in their sales and marketing and Seattle in their business development.

Subsequently, he founded his own consultancy business servicing strategy and supply chain needs for client companies including RR Donnelly and KAO of Japan.

He also managed divisions in Baxter, a health care devices company, in Ireland, Puerto Rico and at their R&D facility in Round Lake outside Chicago.

Currently, he serves on two company boards, crafting their strategic direction. This includes RLD, a logistics specialist, based in UK and Ireland and Cloud Strong, a cloud infrastructure and hosting company.

He is ‘entrepreneur-in-residence’ at Galway and Mayo Institute of Technology (GMIT) and a venture mentor and part time lecturer at Arizona State University (ASU). To date he has mentored over 40 startups including software, hi tech and food companies. He follows the MIT’s 24 step program rigorously. This disciplined process ensures new ventures get to success (or failure) fast, weeks rather than years, and before the need to spend cash.

He holds a degree in Chemistry and a MBA both from University College Dublin, Ireland.

Mary has been a practicing physical therapist since 1974, assessing and treating patients with both orthopedic and neurological diagnoses.  She received her BS in biology in 1971 from Chestnut Hill College, Philadelphia, PA, her BS in physical therapy in 1974 from Temple University, Philadelphia, PA and her MEd in Health with a Gerontology concentration from West Chester University, West Chester, PA.

Mary has worked primarily with adults, but has experience treating young athletes as well as children with hypertonicity or hypotonicity.   Pursuing her interest in yoga as a healing modality, Mary received her 200-hour yoga teacher certification at Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health, Stockbridge, MA. in 2010, and incorporates the principles of yoga breathing and movement into her treatment programs.

YOGA AS A MODALITY TO IMPROVE BALANCE

Yoga asanas can be used to enhance balance, strength, stability as well as flexibility.  There are many asanas that provide challenges to balance while also training stability and strength in the body.  Yoga breathing and focus on the moment can bring the patient increased awareness of the body in space which also can improve proprioceptive feedback and enhance balance. Yoga asanas can be modified so than anyone can perform them safely and receive their benefit.  When asanas are linked together into a flow, the practice can become like a dance which makes the practice fun and enjoyable.
